New Oppression Method During Pre-Election Campaign

May 4, 2010
In Kvareli district the National Council might remain without party list. According to the Kakheti News Center, the National Council has submitted the list of 11 people to the regional election commission; two candidates from the list refused to take part in the elections.

“Mzia Khutuashvili refused to participate in the elections after the list was submitted. Today, one more candidate, Aneta Mghebrishvili, refused to take part in the elections. The law prohibits the political party to submit the list of only 9 candidates and less,” said the head of the Kvareli district office of the Movement for the Just Georgia Davit Tochilashvili.

The representatives of the National Council pointed out that the candidates from the Kakheti regional administration are oppressed.

Deputy regional governor Giorgi Sibashvili categorically denies any kind of oppression on the candidates of the National Council. “They cannot indicate any concrete case of oppression. We do not interfere in the activities of other political parties. If they have some inter-party controversy, it is their problem and not ours,” said Sibashvili.
