Defense Ministry Might Face International Financial Scandal?!

May 11, 2010
“Deputy defense minister Vato Makaridze resigned; the administration of Bacho Akhalaia’s ministry confirmed the fact though they do not confirm the fact. Makaridze started working at the defense ministry when Davit Tevzadze was minister and he was in charge of finances. After Bacho Akhalaia became the minister, Vato Makaridze was appointed to the position of the deputy minister – he coordinated the financial management. He worked on the position only for two months. Makaradze himself is not in Tbilisi – wrote the newspaper Resonance in the article “Why did the deputy of Bacho Akhalaia Resign? / “Detention of Berdzenishvili, then resignation of Makaridze - suspiciously coincided with the investigation on the corruptive deals of the international level by the government of Georgia which started in the USA.”

“Detention of Berdzenishvili, then resignation of Makaridze suspiciously coincided with the investigation launched on the corruptive deals of the government of Georgia of the international level which started in the USA. Both facts happened in March. On March 5, the US Federal Prosecutor introduced larger vision on the case. On March 10, the former deputy minister Gela Berdzenishvili is detained and at the same time second deputy Vato Makaridze also resigned. Both men were in charge of finances at the ministry. These facts suspiciously coincided with each other. We will have similar scandals before the budget of the budget of the ministry becomes transparent. The head of all financial departments will finish their career with scandal and supposedly, he will have to cooperate with the law enforcement bodies,” said military expert Giorgi Tavdgiridze in his interview with the correspondent of the newspaper.
