Incident in Akhmeta District Election Commission

May 21, 2010
Incident occurred in Akhmeta district election commission. Representative of the Republic Party Otar Kvirikashvili protested the action of the trainer from the Central Election Commission Aleksandre Jugashvili; the protest later turned into a quarrel with the commission members from the National Movement.

“Trainer Aleksandre Jugashvili taught the commission members that if extra ballot papers are discovered in the ballot-box, they should add the same number of signatures in the registration journal as well. He also taught that voters can vote openly without entering the booth and it is not violation. Besides that, Jugashvili used term “we” during training which showed that he is member of the ruling party. I protested his action and stated that he had no right to give similar recommendations to commission members; consequently, the commission members from the National Movement started quarrel. They were shouting “we can do whatever we want and it is not your business,” Otar Kvirikashvili reported to the Kakheti News Center.

Chairman of the Akhmeta district election commission Mindia Iukuridze denied the incident. “Trainings are held in the hall. I was not there but I know that no incident happened there,” he said.
