Separatists “Make Border-Lines” by Kidnapping People

June 3, 2010
Resident of the village of Kirbali in Gori district Nugzar Takadze was kidnapped. The relatives of the kidnapped man informed the Human Rights Center about the incident. They said two more their relatives were also kidnapped from the same village.

Head of the Shida Kartli regional police department Vova Jugheli confirmed the kidnapping of the three people in his interview with the Human Rights Center. He added that similar facts often happen in the villages of the conflict zone. “The separatists often kidnap people and take them to Tskhinvali; they want to make border-line in similar way. The kidnapped people are judged for illegal crossing of border and are soon released. It is all formality.”

According to Jugheli, the Takadzes, who were kidnapped before, were pastures. They crossed the so-called border to pasture their cattle but were detained. One of them has already returned to the village together with his cattle. The second is still in Tskhinvali where he would be judged for illegal crossing of border.

“We have already returned one person. Second pasture is still in Tskhinvali. As a rule, he will be judged and then released. As for the man who was kidnapped today, I was called and told that he would be released this evening,” said the head of the Shida Kartli regional police department.
