Vladimer Vakhania’s Sister Asked Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu to Assist Them in The Release of her Brother

June 14, 2010
Sister of the convicted Vladimer Vakhania, Nanuli Vakhania, urged the president of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu to assist them in the release of her brother.

Nanuli Vakhnia met Çavuşoğlu at the Tbilisi office of the CoE before his meeting with the non-parliamentary opposition and informed him that her brother is a political prisoner.

She said that Vladimer Vakhania was head of the political organization “United Georgia” and he was arbitrarily detained during protest demonstrations.

“His house was searched but they could not find weapons. Despite that, the court has not stopped the case discussion for 6 months already. My brother’s health has worsened. Thus, I will start the extreme form of protest – hunger strike,” said Nanuli Vakhania.

The president of the Parliamentary Assembly asked her to stop the hunger-strike and promised to raise the question of her brother at every meeting.

Nanuli Vakhania stopped the hunger strike after the request of the president of the Parliamentary Assembly of the CoE.
