Large Amount of Quicksilver Was Collected in Guria

June 29, 2010

On June 26, a policeman was detained in Lanchkhuti district. The unofficial reason for the detention is bribery.

Witnesses said money was withdrawn from the detainee’s pocket. Supposedly, the money was marked. The witnesses said the policeman got off the bus before detention.

The witnesses added that only several officials of the General Inspection were in uniform. They pointed guns at the local policemen and ordered to leave the area.

On the previous day, a large amount of quicksilver was discovered in the village of Ninoshvili in Lanchkhuti district. These two facts can be connected with each other because the detained policeman is resident of the village.

According to unofficial information, Turkish company is collecting quicksilver in Guria region. The Guria regional department of the MIA does not comment on the fact.
