Kakha Katsitadze: “Occupied” Does Not Mean that Toilet Is Invaded But It Means Somebody Is In”
July 5, 2010
“Interpretations of the word “occupation” and overall-public celebration of the fact once more demonstrated that our government is a liar,” said expert Kakha Katsitadze in his interview with the newspaper “Weekly Palette” –“G8 meeting followed Medvedev’s visit in the USA where Sarkozy, Medvedev and Obama enacted common statement about Nagorni Karabakh. I will not discuss details but the issues related with the Nagorni Karabakh shall be peacefully resolved by Azerbaijan and Armenia through joint negotiations. It is noteworthy that Nagorni Karabakh is also mentioned as “occupied”. But unlike us, Azerbaijan did not start celebration despite the fact that the document was signed by Medvedev, Obama and Sarkozy. Maybe, people in Azerbaijan know or understand English better,” said Kakha Katsitadze.
“Occupied” means “busy” in English. For example, in foreign countries the toilets on the plane and train have notice “occupied.” It does not mean that the toilet is invaded which should be liberated from the enemy, but it means that it is busy. By the way, this term comes from soviet time. Armenia had American defense minister for some time. During his speech at the parliament of Armenia the American-Armenian defense minister said that they had occupied Nagorni Karabakh which caused serious noise in the parliament. However, finally, they cleared up the English meaning of the word and did not declare the American minister a traitor,” said the respondent.
“Our government deceives us for one innocent word and states - as a result of our active attempts America declared Russia occupant. It did not happen in fact. However, they also said that Russia had occupied territories of South Ossetia and Abkhazia. We already knew it. Generally, everything became very comic; soon they will print posters where a person will point at the USA and state: “Did you say that Russia is occupant?” like they had during the World War II,” said Kakha Katsitadze.
