Experts of Mental Hospital Are Free on Bail

Experts of the Asatiani Mental Hospital – Gogi Naneishvili, Temur Silagadze and Zurab Beria were bailed with 5 000 GEL. The Judge Nato Khujadze at the Tbilisi City Court passed a verdict.

The attorneys and the accused accepted the motion of the prosecutor Davit Meparidze on the bail. The accused stated that they plead guilty and repent it.

Gogi Nanieshvili said that in 2003 they carried out partial medical expertise. Guram Elizbarashvili was allowed to avoid the punishment based on the false document and spent some time in the mental hospital. Naneishvili said that he took 4 000 GEL as a bribe. In total, the father of the convicted Tamaz Elizbarashvili paid 30 000 GEL for the false expertise conclusion.

Prosecutor Davit Meparidze stated that in 2003 the psychiatric expertise was carried out based on the motion of the defense side. Tamaz Elizbarashvili intended to pay the money for the false conclusion. He got in touch with the experts of the mental hospital Gogi Naneishvili and Temur Kharebava with the support of his friend Temur Machavariani. The experts requested 40 000 GEL for the assistance and said that 10 000 GEL was to be paid to that-time deputy health minister Merab Korchilava. They gave 10 000 GEL to Korchilava and divided the rest 20 000 GEL among them.

Today, the wife of Guram Elizbarashvili Salome Ivanishvili and one more member of the expert commission Tamar Gochitashvili were released on bail too. They were detained on July 5. The case was launched about the crime which occurred several years ago. More precisely, the experts of the Asatiani mental hospital issued false expertise conclusion according to which the son of the president of cigarette distribution company “Eliz Group” Guram Elizbarashvili was mentally disabled.

According to the prosecutor’s office, Guram Elizbarashvili was sentenced to 21 years and 6 months imprisonment for the murder in grave circumstances. He killed 18 Mikheil Tsilikishvili on his birthday on May 19, 2001. He also wounded the uncle of the killed boy Nugzar Tsilikishvili.
