Urgent Appeal of Representatives of Civil Society

March 27, 2009

March 27, 2009

National TV Stations have been transmitting soap-operas about planned so-called “Armed Coup” lately.

It is well-appropriated method of the government and it was specially designed before the large-scaled protest demonstration that is planned for April, 9

We, representatives of different groups of society, think that secret video-recordings aim to mislead and threaten the society in order to change the context of the protest wave; however, it rather has form of psychological terror.

A lot of people are detained, arrested and harassed – in doing so the government aims to block and prevent protest demonstration on April 9.

We think secret video and audio recording by Special Forces in the offices of political parties is form of political plan that might become basis for the impeachment of the first person of the state (Water Gate’s Scandal in 1972)

We condemn the activities of the government. We urgently call upon the society to stop using the method of deceiving the people that aim to subdue peaceful will of the society to enjoy their democratic and constitutional rights.

We call upon the international community, representatives of the diplomatic corps accredited in Georgia to support the implementation of basic human rights and freedoms, values of democratic institutions and to condemn criminal activities of the violator government.
