The Human Rights Center Protests Membership of Akaki Sikharulidze in National Communication Commission

Non-governmental organization the Human Rights Center protests appointment of Akaki Sikharulidze as a member of National Communication Commission of Georgia. Reportedly, majority of the Parliament of Georgia approved Sikharulidze as a member of the commission today

The Human Rights Center thinks that people, who are blamed for corruption and blatant violation of the rights of journalists, must not occupy high-positions in Georgia.

“When Akaki Sikharulidze was Gurjaani district governor, I was attacked, handheld shell was exploded in the yard of my house and unidentified people attempted to murder me. Before the incidents we exposed Sikharulidze in wasting large amount of budget sums and consequently he openly expressed his aggression towards us. Sikharulidze was permanently drunk in his office but he is relative of the President Saakashvili and every violation is forgivable for him,” said Gela Mtivlishvili, journalist for the online newspaper at the Human Rights Center.
