On August 16th, in front of Tbilisi City Hall, open market sellers from different places gathered. They were still asking for the right of open market trade from the Tbilisi City Hall.

The open market sellers requested the right of open market trade in the places reserved till August the 1st. The open market sellers submitted a complaint under the name of Tbilisi mayor. The complaint is composed by the “Conservative Party” member, Lasha Chkhartishvili and includes the ideas about the regulation of the open market trade.

According to Lasha Ckhartishvili, the open market trade is accepted in all states, but for this purpose different city municipalities provide special places and keep them clean. According to him, the open market trade is one of the beautiful characteristics of the city, which can be well regulated and arranged.

According to Chkhartishvili, he came up with different ideas after consulting with the open market sellers. These ideas can become a normative and regulate the work environment of the open market sellers. Before discussing this offer, the open market sellers are asking for permission to trade.

In addition to Lasha Chkhartishvili, the protest rally was led by the member of “People’s Party” Aleksandre Shalamberidze. The protest rally was joined by the representatives of the movement “No,” who also started collecting signatures with the request of legalization of the open market trade.

The protest rally ended in an hour. The next rally is scheduled for Thursday, August 18th, 12:00 p.m. at the President’s residence.

According to Lasha Ckhartishvili, the battle can’t be halted in this phase and the main thing is for the open market sellers to be able to protect their rights and establishing the rules of the open market trade.

On the protest rally, Lasha Chkhartishvili initiated the distribution of forms about the creation of professional league for the open market sellers. The open market sellers are filling in the forms to create a union, which will fight for the protection of their rights.

On August 17th, the open market sellers will return to the place where they have been working before and try to collect the signatures with the request of continuation of their right.

According to the open market sellers, the promise of the Tbilisi City Hall to provide the free places in big markets is a lie. They will not be able to stand such a competition, since their trade budget is very low and they will not be able to keep up with the big markets to take care of their families.

Lasha Chkhartishvili encouraged the open market sellers to hold a more large-scale and bigger protest rally next, for which the open market sellers shall bring two of their colleagues.
