Asphalt Factory Blamed for Environmental Pollution

August 16, 2010
The population of Telavi region, village Ruispiri, is blaming the asphalt factory administration for environmental pollution. As the residents of the village reported to Kakheti Information Center, they numerous times addressed The Inspection of Environmental Protection, Ministry and the local government, but nobody ever paid attention to them.

“The village is wrapped in smoke, especially in the places like gardens and harvest fields. Everything is covered with a thick layer of dust. We can’t sell anything, everything has turned black. The village gets so dusty in the evenings, that we can’t see anything and choke from coughing,” – stated residents of the village, Lia Bosashvili and Tamar Papunashvili. According to locals, asthma, heart and blood vessel diseases and the cancer cases have increased.

According to the head of the Environmental Protection Inspection Kakheti Bureau, Soso Abuladze, the environment has been polluted in the village Ruispiri on a serious level.

“There are two asphalt factories and the three inert materials workshops in Ruispiri. We need to study the area to see which workshop exactly pollutes the environment, is it dust or smoke that’s bothering the village. Our service doesn’t have an official basis, permission or command to control the territory of the businessman. The village needs to address the Ministry of Environmental Protection. We’ll be able to find out the reasons after receiving the Ministry permission ,’’ – stated Ioseb Abuladze.
