Melor Vachnadze and Vakhtang Maisaia Went on Hunger Strike

Melor Vachnadze and Vakhtang Maisaia started hunger strike since August 17th. This was announced by the head of the movement “No” Levan Chitadze. According to him, the lawyer from Eka Beselia’s law firm visited Gldani prison today and noted the fact of the hunger strike.

“Melor Vachnadze is asking for the release of the political and religious prisoners and the cancellation of the prohibition of printed media in prison. Also, the request about allowing international organizations accredited in Georgia to enter and conduct monitoring the prison was noted,” – stated Chitadze. According to him, these requests are shared by Vakhtang Maisaia who also joined the hunger strike.

As Chitadze stated, in case the government does not start satisfying at least part of these requests, the protest rallies will start to be held from September the first in all the administrative buildings.

According to Chitadze, they already reported information about Melor Vachnadze’s hunger strike to the UN, the EU and the representatives of the diplomatic corpus accredited in Georgia.
