The Residents of the Ruispiri Village Held a Protest Rally

August 18, 2010
The protest rally was held in the village Ruispiri of the Telavi Region. The population was blaming the company “Serpantin” in the environmental pollution and asking the relevant reaction from the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Natural Resources.

In the surrounding areas of the village, in the village of Turdo, the asphalt factory and a stone quarry of the company “Serpantini” operate. Several districts are wrapped in smoke and dust. The village reports about the spread of asthma and other allergic diseases.

As the protest rally participants stated, after they addressed the journalists about this problem and the information was disseminated by different information sources, the company “Seprantini” representatives threatened the residents of the village that if they do not keep silent and stop complaining, the police will create some problems.

“We are chocking by the smoke of the asphalti factory, the harvest is destroyed, our health is damaged, we are thinking about leaving this place and after all that they are threatening us,” – noted the protest rally participants. In case the Ministry of the Environmental Protection does not show interest in the request of the population, the population is threatening with paralyzing the work of the asphalt factory.

“You are instigators. Nobody pays attention to these people and since you covered the information, they are all panicking now. Why don’t you understand, that we are not polluting the environment and stop working on this issue. Give us rest from your intrigues,” – stated Nugzar Khutsaidze, the assistant of the company “Serpantini” director to the Kakheti Information Center.
