Kote Kapanadze case appealed to the Supreme Court

Tbilisi appellate court upheld the verdict of the Telavi regional court, according to which the supporter of the “New Rights Party,” Kote Kapanadze was sentenced to 2 years and 6 months in prison. As the brother of Kote Kapanadze, Vaja Kapanadze stated, the decision of the appellate court was appealed to the Supreme Court. Kote Kapanadze states that he is not guilty and is a political prisoner.

As a reminder, the official of the Investigation Department of the Revenue Service, Kote Kapanadze was arrested on June 23rd of 2009. The prosecutor’s office convicted Kapanadze of the misuse of official authorities while working in the tax department inspection.

The legal officers showed interest in Kote Kapanadze, the resident of Lagodekhi region, village Kartubani, after he became the active supporter of “New Rights Party.” Kote kapanadze’s brother, Vaja Kapanadze worked in the Tbilisi office of the “Alliance for Georgia.” The regional organization of the alliance was founded with the help of Kote Kapanadze. The head of the regional headquarters, Nutsa Papava was assigned by his recommendation.
Kote Kapanadze participated the protest rallies held in Tbilisi in spring of 2009, with the demand of the President’s resignation, organized by the non-parliamentary opposition. He was heading the process of the mass transfer of the opposition supporter to Tbilisi. According to Kote Kapanadze’s wife, Shorena Neparidze, the transportation expenses of the opposition supporters were all covered by Kote.
