IDPs On Hunger-Strike Request Compensation within 10 000 USD In front Of Koba Subeliani’s Ministry

September 1, 2010
IDPs on hunger-strike request compensation within 10 000 USD in front of the Ministry of the IDPs from the Occupied Territories, Refugees and Accommodation.

Members of the Christian-Democrat Fraction at the Tbilisi City Council met the IDPs to share their problems.

The chairwoman of the fraction Inga Grigolia and fraction member Zaza Gabunia were among them. The spokesperson of the ministry Eka Gulua attended the meeting. She had to listen to the criticism of the IDPs and answer their questions.

There were about 30 IDPs in front of the ministry. They criticized the indifferent attitude of the ministry towards their problems. The IDPs requested the spokesperson to name the exact buildings where the ministry intended to shelter them.

Eka Gulua said the ministry would offer buildings them in Zugdidi, Chkhorotsku, Khobi, Tsalenjikha, Abasha districts in western Georgia and in the village of Bakurtsikhe in Kakheti region (eastern Georgia) where they would be supplied with electricity and water; in new accommodations the IDPs will have all conditions for living and will enjoy permanent assistance in healthcare.

Part of the IDPs did not find the offer seriously and requested compensation within 10 000 USD from the ministry. With the money they would be able to purchase flats in the regions of Georgia.

The members of the Christian-Democrat Movement will raise the problem in the City Council.
