Homeless IDPs Sued Koba Subeliani at the UN

September 2, 2010
IDPs from Abkhazia, who were forcibly evicted from the resort-house “Akhtala” and are still homeless, sued the minister of the IDPs from the Occupied Territories, Accommodation and Refugees of Georgia Koba Subeliani at the UN High Commissionaire for Refugees.

The IDPs request the UNHCR administration to study their case and assist them.

The IDPs reported to the Kakheti News Center that the Ministry of IDPs from Occupied Territories, Accommodation and Refugees allowed the Kakheti regional police department to evict the people under force and nobody listened to the request of the IDPs.

The IDPs from Abkhazia were evicted from the resort-house Akhtala at 8:00 am on July 16. The district policemen – 196 people in total - participated in the eviction process. The head of the Kakheti regional police department Davit Kokiashvili supervised the process. The policemen threw the mattresses, cupboards and other furniture out of the windows. The high-ranking officials of the Ministry also participated in the eviction.
