Mother Left Without Children Threats with Burning Herself in Protest

September 21, 2010
24-year-old Nino Kemashvili from the small town of Tsnori in Sighnaghi district threats with burning herself in front of the social agency; the agency seized her third child with the support of the policemen on September 21.

“Last year, the representatives of the social agency took my 6-year-old Ana and 3-year-old Mikheil Abetsvashvilis to the Tbilisi asylum for infants without my permission. They requested the same about my third child claiming I was poor and could not provide them with proper conditions for. Do not I have right to have a child since I am impoverished? This morning, the executor came to my house with policemen and took my one-year-old child from me too. I gave birth to these children and will bring up them as I can; why have they taken them from me. Maybe because once they offered me to sell the child and I refused. My attorney petitioned to the chairman of the court Khvicha Kikilashvili and requested to annul the decision but the judge did not satisfy our petition. I will burn myself in protest. I do not want to live without my children,” said Nino Kemashvili in her interview with the Kakheti News Center.
