Funds Wasted in Batumi City Council

September 24, 2010
Members of the Batumi City Council from the opposition parties protest the unreasonable expenditure of the funds from the city budget. They think, allocation of 50 000 GEL for the purchase of second-hand cars for the members of the city council is nothing more than wasting of the state funds.

The member of the City Council from the Republic Party Irakli Chavleishvili reminded his colleagues the statement of the president of Georgia who called upon governmental officials to “tighten their belts”. “These cars will cause additional expenses. Which department receives those cars? And in general why do we purchase them?! Let the City Hall purchase one new car which will serve the chairmen of the departments and the administration will waste less money.”

Chairwoman of the financial commission of the Batumi City Council Eka Targamadze said the cars were purchased for the department of supervision and amenities. “The City Hall has to purchase five second-hand cars. They are necessary for the department to implement their duties more effectively.”
The Batumi City Council allocated 45 000 GEL for five second-hand cars. Several months ago, five new cars were purchased for the members of the supreme council of Adjara Autonomous Republic in order to spend less money on the repair of old cars which mostly amounted to 40 000 GEL per year.
