Story about “Prostitution Hearth”

September 30, 2010
Saba Tsitsikashvili, Gori

Investigator of the Gori district department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs Badri Nazarashvili and prosecutor of the Gori district prosecutor’s office Irakli Shanidze discovered a “prostitutions hearth” in Gori. The “hearth” was found in the building of the hotel “Intuurist” in Stalin Avenue in Gori center. The sign-board on the entrance of the hotel still proudly indicates to the “Night Entertainment Club”. It is interesting, why the club, which was established two years ago, became a problem only now.

Gori district court discusses the criminal case against Zakaria Kapanadze, Ilia Kapanadze, Merab Kapanadze and Irina Grebneva. Prosecutor Irakli Shanidze launched a criminal case under Article 254 of the Criminal Code of Georgia against them. The article states: setting up or maintenance of brothels shall be punishable by fine or by imprisonment for two up to four years in length.

The attorneys of the detainees avoid making comments with media sources; they hope the problem will be settled with the law enforcement officers and judiciary system without much noise and boom.

The investigation concluded that: chairman of the supervision board of the hotel “Inturist” located in Stalin Ave. # 26 in Gori Ilia Kapanadze, who lives in Tbilisi, and administrators of the hotel – Merab Kapanadze living in Gori, Zakaria Kapanadze living in the village of Shindisi in Gori district and Irina Grebneva living in Gori decided to rent out the hotel rooms to prostitutes in exchange of certain amount of money in 2008 (the exact date is not estimated). In order to realize their decision, they estimated the exact price for the service, got in touch with prostitutes and offered them to continue their activities in the hotel. In exchange, the prostitutes could pay lower price for the hotel-room. On September 7, 2010 as a result of the operative-investigative and investigation activities, the above-listed people were detained.

By the way, prosecutor Irakli Shanidze was investigating the case on two young people from the village of Zerti in Gori district. They were accused in insulting the girls in the bath-house located in Kombinati settlement in Gori; they boys grabbed bags from girls. Other girls also attended the trial as witnesses who stated that the young boys from Zerti grabbed a bag from the girl in the bath-house and compelled her to have intercourse with them. However, at that time, Irakli Shanidze did not think the existence of a bath-house in Kombinati settlement was violation of the Article 254 of the CC.
