Military Expert Vakhtang Maisaia Detained Under Charge of Espionage Requests to Be Declared Victim

October 4, 2010
The attorney of Maisaia Natia Korkotadze reported to the news agency “Pirveli” that her client requests permission to study the case materials of the investigation on his physical assault and to find him victim in the degrading treatment. The petition will be submitted to the Ministry of Penitentiary, Probation and Legal Aid tomorrow.

The attorney said there is a reasonable doubt that the investigation is biased. The reason is the position of the penitentiary department which does not allow the attorney to study the expertise conclusion; the department categorically refuses her to see the color photos enclosed to the conclusion.

“On August 27, I petitioned to the penitentiary department to carry out independent expertise but they have not replied to me yet. Maisaia still has bruises on the body so the expertise is still reasonable. However, they have not replied yet. Besides that, based on my request, representative of the Public Defender Guram Bendianishvili visited Maisaia in the custody who wrote in the protocol that the prisoner had numerous injuries on the body. It is fact and nobody has invented a story about it,” said Korkotadze.

We kindly remind you that according to Korkotadze, on August 24, the head of prison security department Kacheishvili beat Maisaia together with his assistants.

The attorney claims that Maisaia has numerous injuries on the body; he also had brain concussion however, the prisoner was not placed in jail hospital.
