October 6, 2010
After two years from conflict, there is still difficult state in two hurt regions of Georgia. The corresponding statement has been made by Chairman of the Council of Europe Committee of Ministers Antonio Miloshoski.

Miloshoski noted that along with other significant problems, the existing situation in Georgia remains on the agenda of Committee of Ministers.
“Two years have been passed since the conflict and in the regions where the conflict took place, the situation is still hard,” – stated Miloshoski.

He also noted that visited Tbilisi with the Secretary General Torbiorn Iagland on July 2nd of 2010 and met with President Mikheil Saakashvili, Foreign Minister Grigol Vashadze, Vice Premier Temur Iakobashvili and Parliament Chairman Davit Bakradze.

‘‘The main topic of discussion was cooperation between Georgia and the Council of Europe. The main attention was paid to the engagement of the Council of Europe in protection of human rights in the conflict regions hurt as a result of 2008 conflict. Behind these general words there are personal tragedies of people that we should not forget,” – stated Antonio Miloshoski.

The head of the Committee of Ministers also noted that visited the camps of IDPs in Georgia and fully perceived the trauma of hurt people.
“We need to do everything to eliminate the tragic results of the conflict and promote the dialogue. After our visit, the Committee of ministers asked the Secretary General to supervise the implementation of directions envisaged by the report. I honestly believe that the full implementation of these activities will start soon and I ask all the involved sides to promote this process,” – states Miloshoski.

According to him, the Committee of Ministers will adopt the report on human rights of Secretary General in November.

The parliamentary session of Council of Europe opened on October 4th and will last till October the 8th.
