Davit Gamkrelidze Protests Detention of Individual Entrepreneurs of the Shopping Centers

October 6, 2010
The leader of’ “New Rights” Davit Gamkrelidze protests the massive detention of the individual entrepreneurs from the shopping centers “Kidobani’ and “Passage”

Davit Gamkrelidze stated at the Press Conference that similar operations, which were carried out against the individual entrepreneurs yesterday and the day before yesterday, are carried out in civil states to neutralize terrorists, drug dealers, group of criminals.

He also stated that if a person is not a criminal, he should not be arrested.

Gamkrelidze thinks that in this particular case the investigation had to cooperate with the individual entrepreneurs. The Government tries to intimidate the entrepreneurs and extort money by arresting them.

“They are ready to pay any sum to be released. This is the most effective source to fill in the black budget. The arrested people will mortgage their properties, business and sell everything to pay for freedom, though they are not guilty at all, Davit Gamkrelidze stated.

He added that soon we will soon learn that entrepreneurs paid 5 000-10 000 GEL for freedom. According to Gamkrelidze, more than 2 000 individual entrepreneurs might get prosecuted because they also import goods from Turkey with the same methods.

Davit Gamkrelidze appeals to the international human rights organizations, in order to make the government of Georgia to stop hysterical “detention mania”. Davit Gamkrelidze demands to release the detainees.
