Nanuka Zhorzholiani’s Brother Misha Zhorzholiani Released from Prison

Misha Zhorzholiani, brother of journalist Nanuka Zhorzholiani and a brother-in-law of head of criminal police, Erekle Kodua, is released from prison.

As Zhorzholiani’s lawyer Archil Shavyulashvili stated to information agency “Pirveli” (first), Zhorzholiani was released from prison after paying the bail. His lawyer does not name the amount of bail.

According to “Pirveli,” David Benidze, Konstantine Chachava and Irakli Ghlonti, detained along with Zhorzholiani, are also released.

As a reminder, Vake-Saburtalo Regional Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs detained Misha Zhorzholiani, brother-in-law of the major general of police, now former head of Special Operative Department Erekle Kodua, and Davit Benidze, a friend of former Defense Minister Davit Kezerashvili in April of the current year. Along with them, two of their friends Konstantine Chachava and Irakli Ghlonti were also detained.

Two month preliminary arrest was passed against all four of them as a compulsory measure.

The detainees were imposed the charge according to paragraph second of article 353 of the Criminal Code – resistance or violence against the defender of public order or other representatives of government. It envisages imprisonment from 4 to 7 years.
