“Century Speculation” of Mikheil Saakashvili

October 20, 2010
The Labor Party of Georgia blames President Mikheil Saakashvili in making false statement and in the so-called “century speculation”.

A leader of the political party Kakha Dzagania said that on October 15, the president of Georgia publicly pretended to read the message from the secretary general of the Venice Commission in his mobile phone. The president said that the secretary general welcomed the new constitution of Georgia and positively evaluated all amendments in it.

Dzagania said that the Labor Party sent letter to the secretary general of the Venice Commission Thomas Markert and asked whether he really had expressed his support for the new constitution with Mikheil Saakashvili. In reply to their letter, the Venice Commission sent the official document and clarification of Thomas Markert that the enclosed document was the only official evaluation of the amendments to the constitution of Georgia.

Kakha Dzagania said that this letter excludes all possibility of sending any messages to Mikheil Saakashvili by the secretary general of the Venice Commission.

The leader of the Labor Party also stated that the commission’s emulation does not express its absolute support for the new constitution at all; they have highlight many shortcomings in it and make remarks about the constitution in it.
