Uruzmag Karkusov: “I Am Blackmailed by Launching Criminal Case against Me and Imprisonment”

October 25, 2010
The former deputy minister of economic development of Georgia Uruzmag Karkusov associates his resignation with his membership in the political party.

“The reason of firing me was my economical program which became the political platform of the recently established political party – “Democratic Innovation – Our Georgia Will Brighten (Ours)”; the number of party members will soon reach 200 000 because the population really want democratic development of the country,” special statement of Karkusov.

The former deputy minister thinks that every person, among them deputy minister, has right to have different opinion and not to be afraid of being fired from the job, or being arrested or otherwise oppressed in the democratic state.

“But, unfortunately, everything is not perfect in our state. Moreover, I am blackmailed by launching criminal case against me and imprisonment,” the former deputy minister wrote in the statement.

Prime-minister Nika Gilauri decided to resign Karkusov from his position last week. The ministry of economic development explained the decision by “lack of knowledge of Georgian language and his uncoordinated business leaves.” Karkusov occupied the position of the deputy minister in 2007.
