Former Ideologist of the Patriot Camp Sends Minatory Letters to Journalist

October 25, 2010
Saba Tsitsikashvili, Gori

On October 21, journalist of the Gori office of the Human Rights Center received insulting and minatory mails.  The author of the letter is the former director of the Gori theatre Lasha Jokhadze. Before 2008, he organized culture events in the patriot camps. The Human Rights Center appeals to the Shida Kartli regional prosecutor’s office to investigate the fact and punish the author of the letter in accordance to the law.

When sending the letter, Jokhadze had been fired from the Gori theatre for two days. The reason for his dismissal was machinations in the theater which were exposed by the journalist of the Gori office of the Human Rights Center. After that, the former director of the theatre sent insulting and minatory letters to the journalist on the social network Facebook.

The Gori theatre is governed by: the manager, art manager and director. Jokhadze started working at the theatre when Lado Vardzelashvili was Shida Kartli regional governor. The former manager of the Gori theatre Giorgi Macharashvili does not know who employed the former “event director” of the patriot camp in the theatre. “He worked at Gori theatre for a long time – about 6 months. I do not remember who recommended us to employ him,” said the former manager of the theatre Giorgi Macharashvili who was dismissed on October 6, 2010 based on the resolution of the Culture Minister.

At the moment, Nodar Mdinaradze occupies the position of the manager in theatre and Soso Nemsadze is the art manager of the theatre. Mdinaradze confirmed that former director of the theatre faced problems after the journalist blamed him in machinations and intrigues.

On October 9, 2010 the Gori theatre started season with the performance “Roma”. On October 14, the official website of the Gori theatre announced that the season would start on October 16. The journalists and people who attended the performance on October 9 protested the announcement. Theatre director Jokhadze told them they were mislead and the previous performance was ordinary one and not the first performance of the season.

We later got in touch with the head of the district culture department Levan Shavliashvili and requested him to explain why they deceived the spectators who attended the first performance of the season on October 9. The culture department categorically denied information of the theatre director and said that it was misunderstanding. However, this misunderstanding ended in firing the theatre director.

Jokhadze sent insulting and minatory letters to the journalist of the Human Rights Center after these facts.
