The Human Rights Center Sues Gurjaani District Governor

October 27, 2010
The Human Rights Center sues Gurjaani district governor Shota Utiashvili. According to the human rights organization, on September 1, 2010 they requested public information from Shota Utiashvili but he has not replied to the request yet.

“Two months have passed since we requested the information but there is no reply yet. Thus, we filed administrative complaint to the Gurjaani municipal board and requested them to oblige the district governor to release the requested public information. The topic of the requested information is very sensitive – it is about safety of people. So, we will use all measures to receive the public information,” said the lawyer of the Human Rights Center Lia Khuroshvili.

She added that although they filed the administrative suit, the municipal board has not replied yet.

According to the regional office of the human rights organization, the level of freedom of information in the local self-governmental agencies has seriously reduced in Kakheti region recently.

“Administrative bodies do not register the administrative suits at all,” said the representatives of the Human Rights Center.
