Identities of Two Detainees Accused in Espionage Are Unclosed

The identities of two detainees accused in espionage in favor of Russia were unclosed.

Their attorney Nana Tsuladze stated that the detainees are Armen Gevorkian and Ruben Shikoian.

According to the attorney, Gevorkian and Shikoian were arrested on August 17th. They are sentenced to two-month imprisonment and investigation is underway on their case. In addition, as Nana Tsuladze stated, the case is completely secret.

“I do not know how many persons are detained. But as for my clients, I can tell you that they are ethnic Armenian citizens of Georgia. Before their detention, they worked in one of the company, which inspects luggage and fuel. Gevorkian was a company director. Shikoian was his deputy”, Nana Tsuladze stated.

The attorney does not know when the information about the investigation can be published.

The information about detention of 20 people for espionage in favor of Russia was spread on October 29. Besides that, according to the Interpresnews, Armen Gevorkian was head of Armenian Diaspora in Adjara when Aslan Abashidze was head of the government of Adjara autonomous republic. Gevorkian and Shikoian were arrested in Batumi and ten more people were arrested with them.

In addition, on October 30th “Interpresmews” was reported that twenty detainees worked in favor of the Foreign Intelligence Department of Russia. They tried to get information about the purchase of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the Ministry of Defense of Georgia as well as information about high ranking officials of law enforcement institutions.
