“I Sleep With Gun, I Am Afraid to Have My Daughter Kidnapped Again”

November 4, 2010
Iamze Diasamidze from the village of Koreti in Akhmeta district blames the district police in negligence. Iamze Diasamidze reported to the Kakheti News Center that several days ago, a masked and armed man attacked her at night and kidnapped her 12-year-old daughter. Iamze Diasamidze said if she had resisted the kidnapper, he threatened with killing of her seven children. The mother described the criminal in details to the officers of the district police but nobody has been arrested yet.

“We resettled here in 2004 from Adjara. Our house pulled down there because of natural disaster. My husband works in Adjara and sends money to us. I live with my seven children here. Several days ago, it was midnight, I was sleeping and my child woke me up saying somebody was calling. When I opened the door a masked and armed man ran into the room and ordered me not to approach him. He ordered to let him take my daughter but if I resisted, he threatened with killing my children. I was very afraid. I had no way out and obeyed him in order to save other children. As soon as he left my yard, I started shouting. The neighbors looked out at the noise and several minutes later my daughter returned home. When the kidnapper heard my shouting he left the girl and ran away. I know who he was; he is a local Kist. I reported to the police; I petitioned everybody; I even went to Tbilisi but that man is still free. Police does not do anything; only our district inspector visits me sometimes and asks whether we are safe. If I were safe, I would not have slept together with the gun. I am afraid he will kidnap my daughter again. The children live in bad conditions. They are very scared. I have nowhere to go; if I had I would have left the area long before,” said Iamze Diasamidze.

Akhmeta district police does not make any comments about the incident.

Representatives of the Human Rights Center met Iamze Diasamidze yesterday. The lawyer of the human rights organization Lia Khuroshvili stated they intend to send official letter to the chief prosecutor of Georgia and request to control the investigation personally.
