About 300 Socially Disabled Pupils Are Waiting for Text-Books In Rustavi

November 9, 2010
At the beginning of the school-term the ministry of education announced that children of socially disabled families receive text-books for free. In Rustavi, pupils are waiting for the books for three months already. About 300 socially disabled children have not received books yet.

The ministry of education officially commented on the fact and stated that the children left without books will receive text-books in the second part of the program in near future.

Which institution was guilty in this problem? The head of the Rustavi resource-center Marina Ugulava said that they took the lists of the socially disabled pupils from schools.

“The point is that many parents had not informed the school about their status. So, the mentors of their children could not insert children in the lists. Unfortunately, the citizens are ashamed to declare in the school that they are socially disabled. I assure you that we had many cases when parents asked us to give the books to them personally and not to their child in the classroom,” said Ugulava.

According to the unofficial information, the sum allocated for the text-books of the socially disabled children was not enough for everybody. So, after the budget was approved, more people received the status of socially disabled. Their number increased but the program of text-books was not designed for so many children.
