November 11, 2010
Minister of education and science Dimitry Shashkin reported that directors of eight public schools in Tbilisi were not dismissed by their ministry.
“The directors personally made similar decision and the ministry did not participate in the process,” stated Dimitry Shashkin during his visit in the public school # 23 today.
He added that the school directors have filed resignation letters to the tutorial councils and the council members made corresponding decisions.
“According to the Georgian law, the ministry of education cannot fire school directors. In accordance to the decentralization system of public schools, directors personally file resignation letters and the tutorial councils either satisfy or do not satisfy their requests. So, the decisions were made by the directors themselves,” said Dimitry Shashkin.
The information about dismissal of directors of eight public schools in Tbilisi was spread yesterday. According to the Interpresnews, they were dismissed after their students participated in the protest demonstration against diploma exams. The names of concrete schools are not reported yet.
Besides that, according to unofficial information, the directors of the schools participating in the demonstration were called to the ministry yesterday. The directors and teachers of private schools received verbal notices from the minister – if similar demonstrations continue and their students participate in it, the licenses of the schools will be stopped within 12 hours.
Besides, the Minister gave strict notice to the directors of Resource Centers to warn school directors that they will be dismissed if their students participate in similar demonstrations.
