Husband Confirmed that Public School Director Was Compelled to Sign Resignation Letter

November 16, 2010
The husband of the director of the public school # 149 confirmed that his wife Maia Giorgadze was compelled to sign resignation letter at the ministry of education.

The husband of Maia Giorgadze – Valeri Giorgadze said in his phone interview with the program “Resume” of the Radio Station “Palitra” that he was also called to the ministry of education. He is also a director of public school # 148 in Tbilisi.

Valeri Giorgadze said the officials of the education ministry asked him to compel his wife to write resignation letter.

“They requested me to suggest my wife to leave the position based on her own application. The reason is participation of the pupils of the public school # 149 in the protest rally. According to my information, those pupils were not at the demonstration. My wife provided the ministry with the copies of the documents to prove that her pupils were not at the rally. Every child was at school on that day except ten though they were not at the rally either. Some of them were sick, others had some problems. Nevertheless, school children have right of assembly according to the law of Georgia on general education and the Constitution,” said Valeri Giorgadze.

He added that he was also threatened at the general inspection with sharing the fate of his wife unless the latter writes resignation letter.

Valeri Giorgadze said that general inspection has entered the public school # 148 where he is a director. “Nobody requested me to write resignation letter. As for my wife, she should decide herself to write the resignation letter or not,” said Giorgadze.
