Shop Personnel Are Threatened With Imprisonment if They Hold Protest Rallies

November 16, 2010
The employees of the shops located close to the agricultural market in Telavi, who intended to hold a protest rally in front of the Kakheti regional governor’s administration today, were threatened with imprisonment. The employees of the shops informed the Kakheti News Center about it.

They said the officers of the Financial Police warned the shop owners against holding a protest rally.

“Today, the minister of finances meets the Kakkheti regional governor in the administration and we wanted to inform the minister about the impudence of local offices of their ministry but they did not allow us to meet him. The shop owners told us we would be video-recorded if we hold demonstration; in this case they will face problems and will have to fire us. We have families and earn our living by working in the shops,” said the employees of the shops.

Kakheti regional office of the investigative division of the revenue department does not comment on the intimidation of the entrepreneurs.

Two days ago, an owner of the wholesale shop “Delpini” Paata Papilashvili hung himself in the shop in Telavi. The employees of the shop said the revenue department imposed a fine of 320 000 GEL on him and it compelled him to commit a suicide.
