Rallies To Protest Upcoming Reductions

December 8, 2010
Last Friday, about 40 employees of the Batumi International Container Terminal held rally to protest the dismissal of part of the personnel. The rally participants said, initially their five colleagues and later eight more received notifications on dismissal on the previous day. So they are also afraid to be dismissed soon.

“They are firing everybody. They said only eight people out of forty employees will remain in the terminal,” said an employee of the Port.

General Manager of the Batumi International Container Terminal Ian Novak met the rally participants. As a result of the negotiations, every dismissed employee was recruited back.

The average salary of the terminal employees is 700 GEL. The reason of the personnel reduction was lack of funds, as the administration clarified though they did not make official comments on it.
