Moscow Denies Information About Organizing Terrorist Acts in Georgia

December 8, 2010
Nino Dighmelashvili

Yesterday, the ministry of internal affairs of Georgia spread information about the detention of 6-member-group of people who allegedly participated in the explosions in November-December, 2010. The detainees are accused in the explosion in Javakhishvili Street near the office of Labor Party; in Noneshvili street in Mukhiani settlement, near the US Embassy in Tbilisi, in two explosions near the railway station in Tbilisi and in the attempt of explosion of the railway bridge near the village of Chaladidi in Khobi district.

Two more accused are sought. According to the MIA, they sheltered the occupied territory of Abkhazia. The detainees are residents of Gali district – the occupied territory.

The Labor Party does not trust the information spread by the MIA about the explosions and states that the President Saakashvili is responsible for the accidents. On December 8, the chairman of the Labor Party Shalva Natelashvili stated at the press-conference that explosions in Tbilisi, which ended with casualty, was a political terrorist act and had three main goals – Saakashvili wanted to threaten population, to cause controversy between Russia and the USA and to create an alibi for the future terrorist acts and claim that it is organized by foreign countries. In parallel to it, Natelashvili called upon the world leaders to stop lobbying of Saakashvili.

The MIA also reported that Russian major Evgen Borisov stood behind those explosions in Georgia. He served in the Russian military forces deployed in Abkhazia. The deputy minister of interior Eka Zghuladze stated that Borisov ordered and funded the purchase of explosives. She also said that the group was preparing other explosions too because the MIA discovered 13 units of explosives and 10 kilograms of hexogel, the explosive substance.

Conflict scientist Mamuka Areshidze said that Russian Special Forces could use the residents of Gali district for the terrorist acts because the occupation regime compels the local population to do whatever they order them to do.

The expert said that since incidents had already happened near the office of the Labor Party, the organizers of the explosions chose a right place – it was evident that the Labor Party would blame the authority in the explosion.

According to the Interpresnews, the expert of security issues Irakli Sesiashvili appreciates the work of the law enforcement officers who found the organizers and implementers of the terrorist acts. He said Russia will have to justify itself before Washington for the explosion near the US Embassy.

“Russian side will have to explain to American colleagues why they needed to organize an explosion near the US embassy in Tbilisi,” said Irakli Sesiashvili. He does not exclude possibility that the incident might cause a diplomatic scandal between the USA and Russia. Afterwards, it might compel Russia to compromise in regard with the USA. However, the Kremlin is unlikely to compromise with Tbilisi.

The deputy interior minister Eka Zghuladze reported that every detainee pleads guilty.

Moscow denied the connection of the Russian officer with the terrorist acts in Georgia. The edition “Komersant” wrote about it.

The Defense Ministry of Russia reported to the Komersant that connection between the explosions and Moscow is a provocation.

“It is next, badly planned and badly staged provocation. Georgian government is not very good at inventing stories about Russian Special Forces. They should create cleverer story than the one about the phone registered on the Russian Defense Ministry,” the Russian Defense Ministry stated.

The officials of the Russian Foreign Ministry claim that documentary film “Enveri 2” is aired because of the upcoming Russia-EU summit.
