Subscribers Halted Agreements With Telavi Cable TV in Protest

December 9, 2010
Hundreds of subscribers halted agreements with the cable TV-station in protest because the Telavi based cable TV stopped transmission of the programs of the independent TV-Companies Maestro and Kavkasia.

Members of the Telavi district office of the Conservative Party also joined the demonstration against the cable TV “Gorda.”

The representative of the Conservative Party Giorgi Mosiashvili reported to the Kakheti News Center that many subscribers do not pay fees in protest and are ready to cover the debts if the Gorda renews transmission of the Maestro and Kavkasia.

The Telavi based cable TV Gorda has about 5 thousand subscribers in Telavi. The TV administration does not comment on the protest of the subscribers.

The cable TV stopped transmission of the programs of Maestro and Kavkasia on September 29. The administration clarified that delay was caused by technical problems but despite many promises they have not restored the transmission of the independent companies. The administration of the Gorda TV refuses to transmit programs of the Telavi based independent company Tanamgzavri.

On November 25-26 the Telavi cable TV stopped transmission of the Channel II of the public broadcasting when the opposition parties started rallies in Tbilisi. Initially, the Channel II was switched off on November 18 when the initiative group of the Public Assembly held meeting with their supporters in Telavi.

Short time ago, the Gorda started to release its own news program which is aired twice a week. The news program mostly covers the governmental activities.
