IDPs Might Be Evicted from Compact Settlements Before New Year

December 16, 2010
Political Party “By Ourselves” categorically demands the government to halt “process of shameful eviction of IDPs” and intends to inform the diplomatic corps accredited in Georgia about it.

The leader of the political party Paata Davitaia stated at the briefing in the parliament that the Ministry of IDPs from the Occupied Territories, Accommodation and Refugees of Georgia has cynic attitude to IDPs.

The MP said that IDPs, residing in compact settlements in Tbilisi, received letters according to which they have to leave the accommodations before New Year. Those IDPs are promised to be resettled to the village of Bakurtsikhe in Gurjaani district, to the villages of Zumi, Lesichine and Potskhoetseri in Ckhorotsku district, to the village of Chkadua, Narazeni in Zugdidi district, to the village of Nojikhevi in Khobi district and to the village of Abashispori in Abasha district.

“I wonder what the governmental official thought off when he decided to force out the IDPs from their accommodations before the New Year,” said Davitaia and added that the political party By Ourselves will never put up with similar situation and intends to hold protest rallies in front of the Refugee Ministry.

“We will arrange a “shame corridor” for the governmental official who made Nana Pipia to burn herself,” said Davitaia and added that the result of Nana Pipia’s “murder” is silence of the prosecutor’s office and propaganda about jolly meetings of the minister Koba Subeliani with IDPs on TV.

The political party By Ourselves does not request the punishment not only minister of IDPs from the occupied territories, accommodation and refugees Koba Subeliani but of the entire government because their attitude towards IDPs contradicts the strategy of the government. The MP also recalled that Prime Minister Nika Gilauri was invited to the session of the anti-crisis parliamentary committee two times but he did not appear there. Davitaia is sure that Prime-Minister could not reply their questions and that was the reason.

Reportedly, the IDPs might be evicted from about 30 buildings before New Year.
