Levan Gachechiladze: “If I Fail To Prove My Truth While I Am Alive, I Will Bequeath It to My Successors”

December 21, 2010

Aleksi Bezhanishvili

A leader of the Georgian Party Levan Gachechiladze responded to the article published in the newspaper “Asaval-Dasavali.” He blamed Nino Burjanadze’s family in launching nasty campaign against him.

“I have never discredited opposition members but you all have witnessed that nasty campaign was launched against me and my political party without any evidence. Burjanandze’s family launched it in favor of the government,” said Gachechiladze at the special briefing in the office of their party on December 20.

He said he had done his best to make people accept Nino Burjanadze when they were whistling at her during protest rallies.

Gachechiladze added that despite his attempt to assist Burjanadze’s family to join opposition parties, they unfortunately failed to change their positions which they had during their governance.

Levan Gachechiladze requested to publish documents to prove the nasty accusations against him. He said during live-program on Maestro-TV that the campaign against him is beyond political controversy and “it is extreme dishonesty.” He requested Badri Bitsadze to publish those documents which he mentioned in his interview with the Asaval-Dasavali.

“I will struggle for my truth till the end and will win. If I fail to prove my truth while I am alive, I will bequeath it to my successors. I will go everywhere to prove my truth. I will not stop bothering him until he publishes the evidence against me. I have never seen such a “little” man in my life; I will never sit at table together with him unless he provides proofs against me and confirms authenticity of those documents. I will fight against dishonesty till the end. Success cannot be reached at the expense of honesty,” said Levan Gachechiladze.

Before the documents are published, Gachechiladze is not going to comment on this fact. He is sure those documents do not exist.

Newspaper “Asaval-Dasavali” published an article on Monday where Badri Bitsadze spoke about secret details of meeting and negotiation of Levan Gachechiladze and Mikheil Saakashvili. The previous issue of the newspaper published an article of the journalist Jaba Khubua where he claimed to have a paper where Levan Gachechiladze wrote his requirements to the President Mikheil Saakashvili after the presidential elections of 2008. More precisely, “appoint me on the position of the prime-minister for 6 months;” “I want 5 million GEL; “I need starting capital of 10-12 million GEL to establish Ilia Chavchavadze’s Real Estate Bank”.

As it later became clear, journalist Jaba Khubua did not have similar paper. He confessed it in his interview with the Radio “Palitra”.

He said his informers had the document and it was up to them to decide to publish it or not. As for the source of the information – Badri Bitsadze and new materials published in the last issue of the newspaper, the journalist said that he had audio-recording of Badri Bitsadze’s interview.

It is interesting whether Bitsadze knew that his speech would be published, Khubua said he had interviewed Badri Bitsadze. “When two people are speaking with the switched-on Dictaphone, what is it? Of course, it is an interview which will be published,” said Khubua.

It is interesting that Badri Bitsadze’s wife – leader of the Democratic Movement Nino Burjanadze called the information about her husband having provided the Asaval-Dasavali with the information “dirty nonsense” in her interview with the newspaper “Kviris Palitra”.
