Tbilisi City Court Heard 26 172 Cases throughout the Year of 2010 and Brought Only 3 Verdicts of not Guilty

On December 21st the head of Tbilisi City Court Mamia Pkhakadze presented report on the activity of court implemented throughout the year of 2010 to the journalists.

According to him, Tbilisi City Court heard 26 172 cases throughout this year, 22% more than the last year.

“The number of received and heard cases has increased. The Court schedule was very busy. The judges appointed trials on the weekends not to have a delay,” – noted Mamia Pkhakadze.

The 84.3 % of cases heard in Tbilisi City Court ended with procedural agreement; the verdict of not guilty was brought only on 3 cases, partially justifying verdict – on 9 cases.

As a result of Tbilisi City Court decisions, 8 713 individuals have been convicted throughout 2010, to 4 260 individuals (48.9 %), the imprisonment was ruled as a penalty type.

The head of Supreme Court Kote Kublashvili attended the conclusive briefing held in Tbilisi City Court.

According to Kublashvili, the trust of Georgian public towards the courts has increased. The illustration of this can be the results of research held by three different foreign organizations in 2010.

“The data of this research is almost identical. According to the researches, 60% of the populations positively estimates the court activity, 77% of the interrogated admitted that the decision taken on their cases was just and objective,” – stated the head of Supreme Court.
