President to Independently Decide Granting Shota Rustaveli and National Premiums

The President of Georgian has been given opportunity to grant Shota Rustaveli and Georgian National premiums independently. The corresponding decree has already gone into force. According to the decree, the President is authorized to take decision on granting premiums without following the relevant procedures. Generally, no more than three Shota Rustaveli and seven National Premiums are granted, but according to the President’s decision, this number might increase.

Shota Rustaveli premium is granted in the following spheres: fictional literature, music, cinema, art, theater, architecture, Rustaveli study, social and humanitarian sciences.

Georgian national premium is granted in the following spheres: fictional literature, music, cinema, art, theater, architecture, Television, publicism, cultural heritage, natural sciences, medicine, technique.

As for the procedure of the contest, the Commission will be established for the contest announcement and the receiving and discussing applications headed by the Ministers of Culture and Monument Protection, Sport and Education and Science.

Shota Rustaveli and Georgian Ntional Premium contests in the spheres of art and science are announces in January every year. The education, scientific, art and other public organizations working in the spheres of art and science with relevant authority and competence will be authorized to nominate candidates. Parliament members area authorized with the corresponding right as well. The decision is taken in the Commission by voting. The President determines the final results of the contest and the list of the laureates.
