“No” Requests Public Defender to Study Oppression on Mari Maziashvili

January 11, 2011
Youth movement “No” requested Public Defender to study the case of oppression on their member Mari Maziashvili.

Leader of the movement Levan Chitadze stated at the press-conference near the Public Defender’s Office that Mari Maziashvili took part in the demonstration in support of Veterans in Hero Square on January 5; on January 6 strangers met her near the house and threatened her.

Mari Maziashvili also attended the press-conference and spoke about the incident personally.

She said at 6:00 pm on January 6, when she was leaving home and going to her friend’s place, two men met her at the entrance and threatened her.

“They asked why I did not obey their demands and continued participation in the rallies. I was told they mercied me and did not kill because my birthday was coming on January 7; they knew it. Before that, I was threatened on August 19 too”, said Maziashvili and added that she is going to appeal to the prosecutor’s office too.

Head of the judiciary department at the public defender’s office Sopo Benashvili said under-age Mari Maziashvili applied to their office for help but according to the law her application will not be discussed without the signature of her parents.
