Gavazi Population Threatens with Protest Rallies

January 14, 2011
Population of the Gavazi village in Kvareli district blames the JSC “Kakheti Electricity Distribution Company” in breaching their rights and the Energy Ombudsman in negligence. The locals allege that the Company compels them to pay for more electricity than they have spent.

According to the communal electricity meter, each subscriber has to pay extra 70 GEL per month. Gavazi residents said they have applied to the Kvareli office of the Kakheti Electricity Distribution Company several times but instead resolving their problem, they threatened the subscribers with imprisonment.

The population requested the Company to set up a special group to inspect the electricity meters to find out which of them miscalculates the spent electricity; however, the company did not envisage their request. Now, the villagers appeal the Energy Ombudsman to visit their village and study their problem.

The representatives of the Kvareli office of the Kakheti Electricity Distribution Company did not comment on the fact. Unless the problem is eradicated, the villagers threaten with protest rallies.
