Georgian Frontier Police Did Not Allow Dagestan Couple to Enter Georgia

January 21, 2011
The Georgian frontier officers did not allow the Dagestan couple to enter Georgian territory in upper Larsi, who had Schengen visa together with the so-called Russian international passports.

Ali Khazbulatov, who was not allowed into Georgia together with his spouse, clarified that his documents were in order. He could not tell the frontier guards the phone numbers of those Georgian citizens they were going to visit in Georgia.

Ali Khazbulatov claimed he had not seen his Georgian friend for 20 years and wanted to see him. The Russian frontier police officers confirmed in their interviews with the “RiaNovost” that the Khazbulatovs indeed tried to enter Georgian territory through the checkpoint of the upper Larsi on January 14.

The press service head of the Russian frontier department in Northern Caucasus reported that North Caucasus citizens were not allowed into Georgia in more than five cases.

On October 11 2010 the Georgian president Mikheil Saakashvili released a decree which enabled Russian citizens to enter Georgian territory without visa through the upper Larsi checkpoint

The special representative of the Russian president in federal district of North Caucasus Alexsandre Khloponin evaluated the decision of the Georgian president as “Saakashvili`s political blackmail and part of destabilization conception in the Caucasus."
