Moscow Alleges that Georgian Authority Continues to Spoil Relation with Russia

February 2, 2011

Government of Georgia keeps on spoiling relations with Russia, official representative of the Russian MFA Aleksandr Lukashevich stated.

The statement of Lukashevich responded the opinions voiced by Georgia’s president Mikheil Saakashvili live on 25 January.

‘Mikheil Saakashvili called on all Georgians to meet next year in Sokhumi and said that Georgia is in war situation with Russia. He made statements humiliating Russia. It was confirmed that Georgian government is stubborn to keep on the line of spoiled relations with Russia. Abkhazian and South Ossetian fear of attack from Georgia is reasonable,’ Lukashevich’s statement reads.

Lukashevich says that after these statements of Saakashvili, it will be difficult to discuss the issue of returning refugees and establish trust on Geneva talks. He considers that main topic of the discussions must be security.

Lavrov’s department representative says that statements of Sokhumi and Tskhinvali regime leaders were released in UN Security Council in the end of January. They made non-use of force pledge. He considers that this is strong and effective step to improve stability and security in Caucasus.
