Sergei Bagapsh: “When Georgia pays us 12 billion then you will receive compensation my darlings!”

February 2, 2011

“Most of the people demanding the return of their property in Abkhazia do not plan to go back to the Republic.” According to the agency Rosbalt, the head of Sokhumi de facto regime Segei Bagapsh state on the corresponding in the interview given to the newspaper Moscow News.

While talking about the confiscation of residences of Russian citizens, Bagapsh noted that the Russian-Abkhaz Commission on the Restitution of Property Rights of Russian Citizens heard 46 cases six out of which were rendered well-grounded.

“To say it openly, 90% of people with property complaints do not plan to go back to Abkhazia. They just want to receive the residences and then sell it for a good price,” – states Bagapsh.

According to him, Georgian citizens can express complaint on their property in Abkhazia only after Georgian government pays 12 billion dollar compensation to Abkhazia for the damage inflicted in 1992-1993.

“I was in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and saw many requests of Georgians on the return of their property in Abkhazia. Their motivation was that they are Russian citizens and have Russian passport. How are they different from Russians to who Abkhaz government gives property back?!” – states Bagapsh.

According to him, the answer to Georgians’ complaint is simple: “Georgia inflicted damage on us during the war. Yet in 1996 we stated our price – 13 billion dollars. When Georgia pays this money then you will receive compensation my darlings!” – stated Bagapsh.
