The New Rights Allege Saakashvili to Buy Boeing for 20 Million USD

February 3, 2011
“Saakashvili is going to buy a Boeing 787 at a cost of about 200 million USD. They ordered the airplane to the factory six months ago.” Members of the political party New Rights acquired this information based on their foreign source. The party chairman Davit Gamkrelidze said they were informed from the Boeing Factory. The New Rights party object to this decision, and state that the president should cancel the order because of today’s grave rate of inflation,” wrote the newspaper Resonance in its article “Saakashvili to Buy Boeing for 200 Million USD – the New Rights Allege.”

“We were unable to receive clarification on this allegation neither from the president’s administration nor from his press-center. The head of the press-center -Natia Bandzeladze, told Resonance that it is not within her job description to cooperate with the media on this issue, and suggested the journalist get in touch with Saakashvili’s spokesperson Manana Manjgaladze. Having called the latter, she asked us to call later. However, later she did not answer our phone calls. She did not reply to our text-message either. The New Rights allege that they checked the information with the company that sells the Boeing 787 airplanes and they confirmed that the President of Georgia had ordered one,” the newspaper wrote.

“The Boeing 787 – 8 costs 185. 2 million USD.  The Boeing 787 – 9 costs 218. 1 million USD. The orders for 2011 were already received in advance and the list of customer states and air companies has already been published. Georgia is not on this list. However, there are 18 secret orders on the list and the customer’s names are not published,” wrote the author of the article.

“It is a commercial order and nobody will tell you the name of the customer at the Boeing Factory. The information is not available for everybody. But, I personally have personal contacts in this factory. The (Boeing’s) customer is definitely the government but we will not be able to obtain the documents until the airplane appears in the country. The order was not made two days ago; it happened about 6 months ago. They have made an advance payment and the plane is being built,” said Davit Gamkrelidze in his interview with Resonance.
