Georgia Ranks 12th in Number of Prisoners

According to a published report by World Prison Population List, Georgia ranks 12th in the world for number of prisoners it has.

Information from 217 countries worldwide was put on the list. According to the report, in 2010, 538 people per 100,000 citizens in Georgia were in prison. According to this indicator, it places Georgia in second place in Europe and sixth place in the world.

The United States is the leader country with the number of prisoners. China and Russia occupied second and third places. Specialists counted the number of prisoners out of 100, 000 people in each country. In the developed countries 70-80 people out of 100 thousands are in prison, and in other countries their number is 141.
