Head of Human Rights Parliamentary Committee Thinks Criticism about IDP Eviction Is Populism

February 8, 2011
Chairman of the Human Rights Parliamentary Committee Lasha Tordia thinks that criticism of the IDP eviction by opposition parties is populism.

Lasha Tordia said at the plenary session today that already hard conditions of the IDPs shall not be aggravated by similar activities.

Tordia asked the opposition parties to study the conclusion of the UN Monitoring Council about the IDP eviction process which states that eviction was implemented in comply with the national and international law.

The committee chairman added that several IDPs got advantage of the conflict in 2008 and broke into the buildings. Later, the government found out that those people had other flats too.

“The IDPs were informed about the planned eviction together with the UN Council four months before,” said Lasha Tordia and asked the opposition parties not to provide society with wrong information about the process.

“We should finish speculation and politization of this issue,” said the MP.
