February 11, 2011

Chairman of the Georgian Bar Association Zaza Khatiashvili requests criminal liability for the judges of the Tbilisi City Court – Jumber Rusiashvili, Irakli Shengelia and Ivane Glonti.

Zaza Khatiashvili told the Interpresnews that above-listed judges changed their judgments after the high-ranking officials of the Penitentiary Ministry interfered in their activities – it is criminal offense.

Khatiashvili added that prosecutor’s office had to start investigation on the abuse of power by judges and on the altered court judgment but it did not happen.

Zaza Khatiashvili presented two documents on one case signed by the abovementioned judges. Part III of the resolution part of the judgment passed on March 18, 2009 states – “salary for the forced truancy shall be reimbursed for Darejan Meparishvili.” The motivation decision states “the court concluded that the request on the reimbursement of the forced truancy was not grounded.”

The former employee of the Penitentiary Department Darejan Meparishvili sued the PD for illegal firing from the department. Zaza Khatiashvili was Darejan Meparishvili’s attorney at the trial.
